::Hi,

::I'm new to this forum so firstly I would like to say hello!

::I was wondering if anyone has any experience of air travel with a senior dog? I would like to move to Canada (from the UK) and will only go if I can take my dog. I believe she is small enough to go in the cabin with me. There is no way I would go if she couldn't go in the cabin!!

::I was just wondering how stressful dogs tend to find it? She has not travelled before and is 17 years old. She does like to sleep a lot but is still quite fit and lively. The vet seems to think she would be ok, but he was also a bit vague so I just wanted to see if anyone had had any personal experiences? I won't go if it is going to harm her in any way, physically or mentally.

::Thanks for your help!
::Hayley

:Hi Haley! And welcome. I think if you are taking her in the main cabin, she should be okay. After all, you will have her with you and be able to check on her constantly and talk to her. Is she of a nervous disposition? Or calm? That might play into whether you should think of giving her a calmative for the journey.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I think she will probably be ok but I just really worry as I couldn't live with myself if I caused anything to happen to her! It's over a 9 hour flight from the UK to Vancouver so it's quite a long time. However, she sleeps for about 5 hours at a time these days and all through the night so if she slept she'd probably be fine.

Have you ever seen or heard anything about dogs getting DVT (Deep vein thrombosis) on planes like humans do?

Hayley
