My husband and I recently purchased a wonderful sharpei.
Less than 4 days after the purchase, the puppy (10wks old)
had a very bad swollen left heel. I took him to my vet,
and he did exrays, blood work ,and took his temp. Other
than the leg and the temp. he was fine. The temp was at
104. The vet sent him home with CLAVAMOX, and the next
day he only limped on the leg a few times. At 12 weeks old
the other leg inflamed and again we took him to the vet.
The vet again took blood, temp, and so forth. This time the
blood came back completly different, and the temp was again 104.
The vet called the State Vet University where he began to learn
about Sharpei fever. The next day, the blood work came back
opposite of the day before. My vet is waiting on a few
professors that have researched this illness, but hasn't gotten
very far.Cho-Cho (which means fat with wrinkles in chinese)is
very important to my family. We are afraid that he will go into
kidney failure, or something else that is terminal. The breeder we
got CHO-CHO from found a web site that said to treat the fever
with buffered asprin. This does not keep him from dying. Any info
you can provide will be greatly appreciated!
