Leigh, Like most purebred dogs, Shar-pei have certain health issues which should be looked into by any new pei owner. Some of these include entropian (a rolling-in of the eyelid, causing pain, squinting, watery and red eyes), Swollen Hock Syndrome, and Shar-pei Familial Fever. Also, hip dysplasia and skin rashes should be watched for. More information on these and any other health issues can be found on Dr. Jeff Vidt's website. All of that said, I have an 11 month old Shar-pei who is absolutely wonderful. He is a sweet and loving pup who practically housebroke himself, very common in shar-pei. I'm sure your friend will really enjoy her puppy, but please encourage her to research potential health issues, as most are treatable if she knows the signs to look for and has a good vet with experience with this unique and beautiful breed. : Hi,
: I have a friend who has just bought a Shar Pei without knowing anything about the breed except that she just love the look of the dog/puppy. I'd like to have a basic idea of what the Shar Pei is like and also any medical conditions that are peculiar to this breed of dogs. : Thanks :)
