Rena, thank you for all of that good information and the suggestions. It is very helpful information. I am sorry to learn that Purina was not a wise choice. Needless to say, we thought we were doing the right thing when we bought Purina. We hadv reason to believe that since our Vet said that any national brand would be a good choice. It seems a shame when we cannot rely on our Vet for sound advice, but I guess that is a different thread.

We will look for one of the brands of dog food that you recommend and try some of your suggested treats too. I am sure that our dog will be happier for the change.

By the way, the "shelter" from which we got our dog is probably different than the one where you volunteer. This one is where the county keeps strays and unwanted animals for a maximum of two weeks before dispatching them. It is a very sad place to visit. Our guy had been there 12 days when we found him.
