Mzupan and Nancy, thanks for your thoughts on the dog house. I did not make clear that our dog is free to roam only in our cyclone-fenced, tree-shaded yard, and that the dog house is located in that fenced yard. We purposely had that part of our large property fenced before we began looking for a dog. So there is no concern about safety. Right now when we leave the property he just sits in a shaded area by a gate waiting for us to return. Since we have lots of rain here in Central Florida we do have soem good rain storms. We would like to try to get him thinking dog house when it rains but maybe the dog house will just have to be a decoration.
