:I was looking up Eagle Pack online. They seem to have a good diet for large breed puppy food. What do you think? Does anyone else here have any advice? What do you feed your large breeds as puppies?
:My concern is Hip Displaysia. Sophie is a very active pup. She goes up and down stairs with ease, and doesn't pass up a chance to jump off of the couch and beds, which makes my nerves fry.
:I want to make sure that Hip Dysplasia is not something that I will have to deal with in the future.

For one thing, feeding puppy food past maybe six months is totally unnecessary and can cause overgrowth, putting a strain on the skeletal system (though once upon a time I fed puppy food for a year and didn't have problems, this is the current thought). I DO have large dogs (both 80 lbs. give or take a couple) and keep them lean. One has a very displastic hip, the right and I manage it mostly with feeding lean (keeping the weight down) and fresh food. She is 13 and I don't think I should be putting her through surgery. I would read up as much as possible on dog nutrition and then make a decision whether you want to feed a good dog food or go all-natural and make your own diet. With dogs, as with humans, what you are is what you eat. Feed healthy and you get a strong immune system and good bones, teeth and coat.
