Actually HAVE seen a horse die from West Nile Virus, it is NOT a pretty sight. AND, here the vaccine is just an initial and a booster 3-5 weeks later, then annually, we have not seen any animals that have been vaccinated (earliest ones were last winter in this area) break with WNV. Have not seen any adverse vaccination reactions either and we've vaccinated hundreds of horses in east TN.
There have been no confirmed cases in the U.S. of WNV in dogs, the last one recognized was in Africa I believe. There was a "suspect" case in GA but it was proven that it was indeed, NOT WNV.
