I can't say YES it will unequivocally work out. There's a good chance that it will given lots of commitment from you to educate yourself, your dogs and your new dog. I have 4 dogs... 3 greyhounds, a chow mix and a corgi mix. Breed was not a factor in picking them, personality and individual circumstances were. Just because a dog is in the shelter doesn't mean it was fought. Get to know the dog as much as you can before making the adoption decision, and base it on the personality. That'll be your best bet.
