The common matrix of all breeds I had ORIGINALLY considered came from the basic set of inactive indoors (from Tortora's Right Dog For You book, then pared down by unfavorable other characterisitcs. The Setter is now also KO'd because of the Texas heat problem, although partly solvable; and the Viszla by the attention issue (requires much; might well get destructive). Since posting and following lots of research yesterday and talking, it seems Rhodesian Ridgeback comes very close to fulfilling our needs/demands. But interstingly I had seen that greyhounds came very close as well.
Related issue: we have thought of a second dog, being sort of my wife's, and she wants a bitty lap dog--s.t. like Silky Terrier. We have seen at friends these little-big combos that have worked well, but will need to ask about the male female issue. It does seem that the little one should be in house first. Any thoughts?
