Just remember, the dogs have not read the books. I, for example, own the Rain Man of greyhounds. Greyhounds don't bark, or so says the book. HA! They're easy to housetrain. HA! The important thing... that he is a sweet, gentle soul, is there to a "T", but he missed a few chapters in the Secret Greyhound Manual.
Rhodesian Ridgebacks are very people oriented dogs. They require lots of early on socialization and training. That much size, strength and intelligence can get out of hand in a hurry if not channeled. They are the world's most notorious counter-surfers. I have stories that would have you either laughing until you cried or crying in dismay. If it's the latter, don't get one. :) They are THE dog for people with an off-the-wall sense of humor. I would describe them, personality wise, as greyhounds with attitude.
I'm not sure what book you read that had the Vizsla down as "low energy". I am hard pressed to think of a dog that is more energetic. There are a few at the local dog park that can almost give my greyhounds a run for their money in the speed department.
In your search for the breed for you, I would recommend taking some time away from the books and meeting some of the breeds you're interested in and their people. Like I said before, the dogs haven't read the books, and in the case of the Rhodesian Ridgeback, I think they have their own manual. :)
