Good traveling breeds

I'm looking for a breed that doesn't mind traveling. I would prefer a medium to large breed (even giants are fine!) Something that is agile, could withstand high temps, is highly obedient, is fine with children and strangers, yet would still be protective of family members.
I should probably mention, when I say traveling, that I mean to deep south and South American countries. ( I am still looking up quarentine laws and traveling laws) So there would be a possiblity of high altitudes and high humidity.
There are a few breeds I'm looking into, but wanted to see if anyone would have any experience or knowlege in the area. Am willing to look into even the oddball breeds!
Thanks!
