:Jumping up on a chair was another one that was being taught however, it's another one we opted not to do. We don't want to encourage jumping as dachshunds spines are so fragile. Besides..that would give him more excuses to jump up on the kitchen table..LOL He's SO proud and full of himself!

I completely agree when it comes to encouraging Dachshunds to jump. Even with my big, agile Tervuren, I have them jump up but I lift them down. I did the same with my Miniature American Eskimo with her platform on wheels that we used for therapy dog visits. Jumping down, especially onto unpredictable surfaces, is a risk for any dog, but for some breeds--and if they don't have hip dysplasia, knee injury, etc--jumping up is okay. My Eskie also used to jump up on my desk if I left the chair out where she could use it to help her up! Thank goodness she had the sense not to jump down off the desk, even if I would call and call from the other room, not knowing she was up there!
