:I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of a sheltie being a service dog, i.e. am alert dog. my sheltie (bodie) has learned that my scent changes when I have a mood swing (I have a serious mood disorder) and will sit on me and help me calm down. are there other shelties doing service duties?

A Sheltie certainly can have potential in this type of work. At home and in other settings where dogs are normally allowed, public access rights are not an issue and the dog doesn't have to be a service dog or assistance dog to be with you. For public access rights, there has to be another "layer" of ability, the ability to behave safely and courteously at all times when in public, cope calmly with the presence of other dogs, kids, etc.
