Glad you mentioned harnesses on small dogs! Once she was trained, I used the leash attached to the harness rather than the collar on my little Angel, 15 1/2 pound Miniature American Eskimo dog. With small dogs, hooking the leash to a harness is sometimes very much better than hooking it to the collar, because their tracheas are more delicate than the tracheas of larger dogs. This is a bigger issue in some breeds than in others, and exactly where to draw the line on the size of the dog, I don't know! But it certainly is a viable option, when you have the right working relationship with the dog. One of many cases in which therapy dog work really must take into consideration the very important differences among dogs!
