In Reply to: Suggestions for service dog devices? posted by terbo on January 24, 2003 at 17:13:11:
:Hi! I am a biomedical engineering graduate student and have a class project to build a device that assists people who have disabilities. I would like to build a device which enables a service dog to assist its owner. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!>>>>>>>>>
How about an uncomplicated device that lowers where a dog needs to push to turn a light switch off and on? I believe there are such devices, but if you make yours portable so that it could be used when traveling and in rental properties where no alterations can be made...and make it inexpensive! And I could use one myself! This allows a person with a disability to get into bed with the light on, and then send the dog to turn the light off.
This is just one idea. You might also check on the website of the International Association of Assistance Dog Partners, www.iaadp.org.
