Introducing a new puppy

I am getting a new puppy, they were just born today so in about 8 weeks or so. my friend has bred her dachshunds. Anyway, I have a 12 year old Lab/shepard mix who's been the head of the household since she came home at 8 weeks old, she gets cranky sometimes but will tolerate other dogs as long as they don't get in her face or bother her. The new puppy will be centered upstairs..where my room is, while the older dog rarely comes up here (unless i have food of course).

My question is, how would i go about introducing them to eachother so there won't be any (or not too many) conflicts? Any tips or ideas? Thanks.
