I just did the same thing at my house. I brought home a lab puppy, thinking my dog would love to have someone to play with. Instead, my dog got really jealous, growling at her and bearing his teeth. I was really concerned at first, and I supervised them big-time. The older dog finally realized the new puppy wasn't a threat, and now they play all the time. We treat the older dog as the pack leader, and of course I retain my position as leader of both of them. Everything worked out quite well.

I think you just have to make it a point to show the older dog that you still love it. With my puppy, I keep wanting to pet her and play with her first, but I'm really careful to include the older dog.

Nikki
